Rachel Zegler and Nicole Kidman Star in Magical ‘Spellbound’ Trailer (Exclusive)

Rachel Zegler, Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem team up for a magical new Netflix adventure from Skydance Animation.

PEOPLE is pleased to exclusively premiere the trailer for the animated family film BannedIn the main role, 23-year-old Zegler plays Princess Ellian from the fantasy kingdom of Lumbria, who faces a great challenge when her parents – the king and queen (Bardem and Kidman) – are turned into monsters by dark magic.

As the trailer shows, Ellian sets out on a mission to restore her parents to human status before time runs out and dark magic threatens their entire world.

“As (Ellian’s parents) flee the palace, panic spreads throughout the kingdom and Ellian must embark on a daring quest to reverse the spell before it is too late,” reads an official synopsis for the film . “But she quickly learns that even if she succeeds, her family may change forever.”

The film comes from director Vicky Jenson, co-director of the 2001 original Shrek film, telling PEOPLE in a statement that “mythology and fairy tales have always been a part of my life and upbringing.”

Zegler “just brought everything and left nothing on the table” while voicing the film’s lead, says Jenson, who called the actress, who takes on another princess role as Snow White next year, “one of a kind.”

Banned “It’s about what really makes a family,” says Jenson, 64. “As with any timeless myth or enduring fairy tale, I believe the meaning goes beyond even the specifics of that family’s dynamic.”

“I really hope that viewers around the world who engage with any type of family can take away the positive message about the love of a family and what it takes to be a family and how that bond is truly unbreakable is,” adds Jenson.

John Lithgow, Jenifer Lewis, Nathan Lane and Tituss Burgess complete the picture Banned‘s cast. The film features an original score by famed composer Alan Menken with lyrics by Glenn Slater and a screenplay by Lauren Hynes, Elizabeth Martin and Julia Miranda.

Banned begins streaming on Netflix on November 22nd.
