Lisa Kudrow pays tribute to ‘Friends’ TV mom Teri Garr, calling her ‘a comedic acting genius’

Lisa Kudrow remembers her Friends TV mom Teri Garr following the news of her death.

Garr died at the age of 79 from multiple sclerosis, first diagnosed in 1999. Kudrow appeared on screen with Garr in several episodes of the NBC sitcom and paid tribute to her late co-star.

“Teri Garr was a comedic acting genius who had and continues to have a huge influence on me, and I know I am not alone,” Kudrow said in a statement People. “I am so happy and grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Teri Garr.”

Garr played the role of Phoebe Abbott FriendsKudrow’s Phoebe Buffay and Ursula Buffay’s estranged mother. She made her first appearance in 1997 in the final episode of the third season entitled “The One at the Beach”. In the episode, Phoebe meets a woman who she believes is her parents’ friend. Phoebe later finds out that the woman is her biological mother.

Garr reprized the character in the 1998 fourth season, in the episodes “The One with the Jellyfish” and “The One with Phoebe’s Uterus”.

Garr began her career in Elvis Presley films of the 1960s Viva Las Vegas And Roustabout. The actress also appeared in the 1964 beach party film Annette Funicello Pajama party. Garr continued to get small film roles throughout the decade, appearing in episodes of Star Trek, This girl, Mayberry RFD, It takes a thief And Room 222.
