Two New York Yankees fans tried their best to stop Mookie Betts on Tuesday night.

Two Yankees fans sitting in the front row near the foul pole in right field were called for fan interference after they tried to actually rip the glove off Betts’ hand as he was playing in Game 4 of the World Series foul ball played.

Their attempt, which came when Betts tried to track down a fly ball from Gleyber Torres in the bottom of the first inning, was unsuccessful.

Torres hit a deep fly ball on Tuesday night, but it went into foul territory in right field. Betts successfully tracked down the ball and appeared to have made the right play when the ball reached the first row of seats at Yankee Stadium, but the two fans immediately tried to jump in and take the ball. A fan actually ripped the ball out of Betts’ glove while trying with all his might to pull the glove completely off Betts’ hand.

While the effort was certainly there, officials quickly called out fan interference and granted Betts the ejection. Security forces also ran toward the fans almost immediately, although it is unclear whether they were ejected.

The Los Angeles Dodgers started Tuesday’s game with a 3-0 lead and immediately took a 2-0 lead after Freddie Freeman hit a two-run home run in the top of the first inning. Freeman has now hit a home run in all four World Series games this fall and in six consecutive World Series games, both of which are records.

The Dodgers are looking for their first World Series title since 2020. The Yankees haven’t won since 2009. No team in World Series history has successfully recovered from an 0-3 hole.
