Vikings trade for Jaguars LT Cam Robinson to replace injured Christian Darrisaw: sources

The Minnesota Vikings are filling their massive hole at left tackle ahead of Week 9 by trading offensive lineman Cam Robinson from the Jacksonville Jaguars, team sources confirmed Tuesday.

Minnesota is receiving Robinson and a conditional 2026 seventh-round pick, while the Jaguars are receiving a conditional 2026 fifth-rounder who can become a fourth-rounder depending on playing time, according to a team source.

The Vikings, who have lost back-to-back games after starting 0-5, will now turn to the 29-year-old Robinson to protect quarterback Sam Darnold’s blind side following a 30-20 loss Lost standout LT Christian Darrisaw to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 8 due to a torn ACL and ACL.

Robinson, a second-round pick in 2017, spent nearly eight full seasons in Jacksonville. He started seven of the Jaguars’ eight games in 2024 and 91 games over his career.

What does Robinson offer in Darrisaw’s absence?

In the words of one AFC executive, Robinson is “a sufficient starter.” The Vikings had an elite player in Darrisaw, and if they hadn’t completed that acquisition, they would have had subpar options, whether turning to backup David Quessenberry or shifting Blake Brandel to left tackle.

Robinson is a free agent after this season, so Minnesota secured him as a half-season rental who can ensure the left side of the offensive line doesn’t torpedo Minnesota’s offense. Robinson is by no means an elite player. He ranks in the back half of 62 qualified tackles in pressures allowed. Pro Football Focus has criticized him for allowing four sacks this season, but the Jaguars’ disjointed offense is important context to consider with these metrics.

Robinson is also rated as a solid – if not exceptional – run blocker.

Another factor in this move is what Robinson may be looking to prove, considering he is an impending free agent after this season. An exceptional performance down the stretch could not only put him in a better position to land a bigger deal, but it could also prove to be a compensatory pick for the Vikings. — Alec Lewis, Vikings beat writer
