A return to the Canadian Tire Center is just what the doctor ordered for the Ottawa Senators, who host the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday, October 29th.

While it’s far too early to say too much about the split between the home teams, it’s pretty clear that the numbers are skewed for the Ottawa Senators – and the return to the Canadian Tire Center will come after a three-game road trip , which ended with consecutive losses to the Senators, welcome Golden Knights and Avalanche.

Ottawa is 3-1 on home ice with a mediocre Corsi For percentage of 50.1 and 50.3 Expected Goals percentage at 5-on-5, compared to corresponding 46.5 and 44.2 on the highway, respectively .

Additionally, it’s notable that all four opponents the Sens faced at home are above 50% in both overall CF% and xGF%, so they had a difficult home team to start the year.

The St. Louis Blues are also traveling to the Canadian capital without center No. 1 Robert Thomas (ankle). That’s a big blow considering he beat the Blues in points per 60 minutes (2.89) and plays in all situations to lead St. Louis in ice time per game (20:12) .

Ottawa is also missing some key starters, but I expect the Sens to continue their strong home game and No. 1 goaltender Linus Ullmark to clean up his game.

Ullmark opened the season with a strong 31-save win over the Panthers, but posted an .830 SV% and 4.71 GAA in his final two starts while also missing time with a hamstring strain.

With St. Louis averaging just 2.46 expected goals per 60 minutes at 5-on-5 and ranking 25th with a power play percentage of 15.0, this is the perfect place for Ullmark to settle recover. After all, he posted a peak .924 SV% and a 2.28 GAA with an above-average 0.58 goals per 60 saved over his last three seasons with the Bruins.

At Pinnacle there was no significant action on this moneyline. A small move to St. Louis earlier this morning was met with a buyout against Ottawa, and I expect the Sens to remain a big home favorite.

That total has dropped from 6.5 to 6 at Pinnacle. It’s a little surprising that Ottawa has played to the over in four of its last six games, but as mentioned, St. Louis is missing its leading scorer and hasn’t been dangerous at 5-on-5 or with the man advantage.
