Severe storms possible on “cooling day” on Wednesday

Tonight will remain windy, with temperatures remaining above average throughout the night and remaining in the 60s in Omaha through 6 a.m. Wednesday morning. Areas north of Omaha will cool into the upper 50s as a cold front moves into the metropolitan area by morning. A few patchy showers will also begin to develop towards sunrise.

Wednesday will be a “cool day” as temperatures will be warmest in the morning and become colder in the afternoon. Omaha starts out in the 60s on Wednesday but quickly drops to the mid 50s by mid-morning and stays there for the rest of the day.

From late morning through the afternoon, thunderstorms will develop ahead of a cold front along and south of I-80 and may become severe. If we see a few severe storms, areas of damaging wind and pockets of hail will be the primary concern, but a tornado is not impossible. This threat appears to be primarily south of Omaha and will exit the region by 5 p.m.

There will be a chance of scattered showers on Wednesday evening and overnight and it will remain windy, but the rain should clear before the start of the day on Thursday.

The cooler weather is setting in for Halloween. It will be mostly sunny in the mid 50s. It will be chilly for the trick-or-treaters as we drop to over 40 degrees at 8pm at night.

Friday looks windy and a little warmer. Highs will be in the low 60s with lots of sunshine.

Rain is more likely for the weekend. There will be scattered rain across the region on both Saturday and Sunday, making it mostly cloudy. Values will be in the low 60s on Saturday, followed by mid to upper 60s on Sunday.

More rain is possible early next week and into Election Day, starting in the mid 60s on Monday and dropping to the mid 50s on Tuesday.
