Player Ratings: AC Milan 0-2 Napoli

AC Milan lost the big clash against Napoli by two goals to nil, and although most of the players performed well, the team’s performance was poor. Below are the player ratings for the Rossoneri.

If you haven’t already, be sure to check it out how we decide on player ratings. From the scale to the impact on the rating, we have put everything together there.

Starting XI

Maignan (5.5): He couldn’t do much against the first goal because his defenders sold him out, but you feel like he should have done more on the second goal. Yes, it’s one of those shots that causes problems for any goalie, but it just didn’t come down quick enough.

Emerson Royal (6): The Brazilian defended well for the most part and was also quite active going forward. He couldn’t do much about either goal and at least went into the game with the right attitude.

Thiaw (6): You can blame him a bit for the first goal, but otherwise he defended well for most of the game and made life at least a little more difficult for Napoli when they got through.

Pavlovic (5.5): With the first goal he completely lost track of Lukaku, which cost him dearly. As mentioned, his colleague should have done better, but in the end it was the Serb who followed the striker. After that he improved, the mistake made a big difference.

Terracchiano (6): Playing out of position, he did quite well and certainly took a more central role in possession. He also often directed his teammates, something Fonseca has already pointed out, and it was enough to get a pass here.

Musah (5.5): The master of ups and downs, with absolutely zero consistency tonight. He had a good attack on the edge of the box in the first half and some good runs. However, he also missed a big chance (strong contact) and was careless at times.

Fofana (5.5): He had to do more for the second goal as he failed to close Kvara properly and his passing wasn’t as effective either. Admittedly he did well to win a few duels tonight, but he is a player who needs to push the team’s tempo even further.

Chukwueze (6 – MOTM): He was probably the liveliest Milan player, often cutting inside and waiting for the right moment to make the pass. He got the assist for the disallowed goal with a really nice cross and should have had an assist after great work for Pulisic (who unfortunately missed).

Loftus Cheek (6): This time we were able to see what he can do very well, namely driving forward at speed. He almost set up a goal and overall he looked much better in both phases of the game (compared to other games). Still just decent.

Okafor (5.5): Maybe a few good moments, but overall very little impact, especially when you compare him to his counterpart. To be honest, the justification for Leao could have come sooner.

Morata (5.5): It goes without saying that it was another hard-working performance that included some good moments, such as an acrobatic back-heel strike that almost helped Musah. There was also a disallowed offside goal, but the truth is that overall the Spaniard could have done more. Not to mention he hasn’t spent enough time in the penalty area, which is where Milan want him.

Substitute

Pulisic (5.5): He’s somewhat excused given the flu/fever he was suffering from, but he missed a big chance in the final minutes after Chukwueze did a really good job of setting him up.

Leao (6): A few good moments, including a shot that Meret saved well towards the end. One could argue that it was similar to Okafor, but Leao came into the game at a very difficult moment and certainly didn’t have the same space that the Swiss international had at times.

Camarda (N/A): We haven’t seen enough to give it a rating.
