Thiaw says Milan are “ready” for Napoli and are defending more “as a unit” under Fonseca.

Ahead of the match between AC Milan and Napoli this evening, Malick Thiaw spoke to the media and shared his thoughts on the situation after unexpectedly taking extra rest.

Milan’s game against Bologna, originally scheduled for Saturday evening, was controversially postponed, giving the Rossoneri a few more days of rest before tonight’s clash. Still, Paulo Fonseca made it very clear that they would have wanted to play the game instead.

Speaking to DAZN before the game, as quoted by MilanNews, Thiaw shared his thoughts on the game and the defensive changes under Fonseca. The German plays from the beginning tonight alongside Strahinja Pavlovic, with Fikayo Tomori on the bench.

To the game…

“We are ready, we had more days to prepare for the game against Napoli after the postponement of the game against Bologna. I will do everything to stop Lukaku.”

About how the style of defense has changed compared to Pioli…

“We defend more as a unit and not in man-to-man mode, we try to send the opponent to one side.”

What type of defense do you prefer?

“I enjoy working under Fonseca.”

Tonight’s game is almost a must for Milan to avoid slipping in the table, or rather for the Partenopei to create an even greater gap. The postponement of Bologna has made things more complicated in that regard, although a match will have to be played at some point.
