Gisele Bündchen’s relationship with Joaquim Valente has evolved from friendship to love and – soon – to parents.

The Brazilian supermodel’s third pregnancy was announced on October 28. This is the 44-year-old’s first child with Valente, but she is mother to two children – Benjamin Rein, 14, and Vivian Lake, 11 – and her ex-husband Tom Brady.

Bündchen’s romance with Valente, her jiu-jitsu coach, blossomed after her divorce from Brady in 2022. Through her son Benjamin she met Valente, who was also Brazilian.

This is how it happened…

2020: Bündchen moved with Brady and their children from Massachusetts to Florida after signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Afterwards, Benjamin began studying Jiujitsu at the Valente Brothers Studio in Miami Beach, Florida, run by Valente and his siblings Pedro and Gui.

February 2022: Bündchen shared a video on Instagram showing that she started self-defense classes with Valente. She said she felt “stronger” and “stronger” since starting the program and said Valente and his siblings were “great teachers” who made “the training so much fun.”

Brady joked that his “days of leaving dishes in the sink are numbered…”

July 2022: Bündchen did a photo shoot for Dust magazine with Valente and his brothers.

“At first I didn’t even think about doing (jiujitsu) for myself,” she told the outlet. “But when I took Ben to first grade and started talking to Joaquim, I realized it was about a lot more than just self-defense.”

Vivian also began training with Valente.

October 2022: After months of rumors, Bündchen and Brady announced that they had separated and divorced.

November 2022: Bündchen was photographed with Valente and their children in Costa Rica, where she owns a home.

A source close to the model denied a romance, saying he was a close family friend who had been her children’s jiu-jitsu teacher “for years.”

January 2023: Bündchen and Valente were photographed riding horses in Costa Rica.

March 2023: They were photographed again in Costa Rica.

Bündchen was asked about Valente in an interview with Vanity Fair and called him a “great friend.”

“I unfortunately think (the tabloids) will try to associate me with something because I’m divorced,” she said. “I am so grateful to know them all because not only have they helped me and my children, but they have also become great friends, especially Joaquim.”

She added: “He is our teacher and, above all, a person I admire and trust.”

June 2023: Bündchen officially began dating Valente, but did not confirm this in the press.

August: 2023: Bündchen told Vogue Brazil: “Breakups are never easy, especially when the media speculates every step of the way. I tried to focus on my children, my health and my projects and dreams.”

February 2024: Bündchen sources eventually confirmed her relationship with Valente.

“They have been together since June,” a source told People. “They’re taking it slow. At first they were good friends. She’s very private about it and wanted to keep it a secret while they were getting to know each other.”

A source told Us Weekly: “Joaquim was a friend to Gisele during her divorce, and they became romantic last summer.” They have “similar lifestyles,” it said, and are both “committed to fitness and diet.”

June 2024: Rumors of Bündchen and Valente’s breakup are circulating and they are being spotted together. A source told People that they have a “close relationship, but not a serious romantic relationship.”

September 2024: Bündchen included Valente in her “Best of Summer” Instagram carousel. He is pictured paddling with Benjamin.

October 2024: News of Bündchen’s pregnancy spread.

“Gisele and Joaquim are excited about this new chapter in their lives and look forward to creating a peaceful and loving environment for the entire family,” a source said in a statement to People.

According to the same source, Bündchen is “excited about the baby and feeling good.” She is “a few months old” and is “planning to have a home birth,” as she did with her first two children. The same source said Bündchen feels “very lucky” to have met Valente, noting that “they were friends at first but have been seriously dating for over a year.”

Brady, who has a long history of dating models Brooks Nader and Irina Shayk, may have responded to the news with a cryptic Instagram post quoting Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide.”
