Halloween weather in Michigan is just a little spooky

The weather on Halloween won’t be perfect, but it won’t be a nightmare either.

A storm system will move through Michigan from Wednesday night through Halloween. Right now it looks like the brunt of the wet weather with this storm system will occur during the first half of Thursday, so trick-or-treating may remain mostly dry for Lower Michigan.

It appears that around Halloween is a very common time for our first major fall storm system. In fact, for many years we see our first wet snowflakes in Lower Michigan around Halloween.

Here is the precipitation forecast in six-hour increments. This definitely shows that it rains in Michigan. Good news is that the precipitation will not be snow.

The southern half of Lower Michigan should see intermittent rain on Halloween, especially in the morning, and tapering off in the afternoon. Northern Michigan will see fairly consistent rain in the morning, but will taper off in the afternoon. It will be quite wet in the Upper Peninsula through Halloween evening.

Here’s a great way to get a feel for the amount of rain while trick-or-treating. The following forecast is the total precipitation forecast for Halloween from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Ann Arbor, Detroit, Flint and the Thumb will see residual showers producing a tenth of an inch of rain. This is generally considered a light rain and will likely end sometime in the afternoon. Even the southeastern corner of Michigan could experience dry weather during trick-or-treating season. Note a dry strip from southwestern Lower, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo and Muskegon to the northeast corner of Lower Michigan. Northwest Lower could still see a few light showers on the afternoon of Halloween. Overall it won’t be too wet in the late afternoon and evening.
