Real Madrid blames UEFA for Vinicius Jr.’s 2024 Ballon d’Or snub

There was major drama at the 2024 Ballon d’Or gala as Rodri emerged as the surprise winner of the prestigious trophy ahead of Vinicius Jr.

This came as a shock to many, including the Real Madrid camp, who had almost taken Vinicius’ victory for granted.

Apart from Real Madrid, various figures from the football community had supported the Brazilian to win the coveted trophy. But to everyone’s surprise, Rodri beat the attacker in the vote and won by a narrow margin.

Rodri’s triumph that evening had repercussions as the entire Real Madrid delegation skipped the event.

Real Madrid blames UEFA

Jorge Picon (h/t RM4Arab) recently provided an update on the evolving situation surrounding Real Madrid, who are still disappointed by last night’s snub of Vinicius.

According to the report, Real Madrid blames only UEFA. The club is convinced that the European Football Association was the main responsible for Rodri’s victory.

In fact, Real Madrid considers UEFA its main enemy for several reasons. It is important to note that there have been tensions between the two companies in the past over Madrid’s support of the European Super League.

Now, with UEFA partnering with France Football for the Ballon d’Or for the first time since 1956, Real Madrid believes the company played a key role in Vinicius not winning the award.

Real Madrid also believe that the criteria taken into account for Rodri’s victory should ideally have resulted in Dani Carvajal winning the trophy.

Due to this decision, the club decided to skip the event as they felt their presence was not valued.
