Bucks coach Doc Rivers calls Donald Trump’s rally in New York ‘cruel’

play

BOSTON – Before his Milwaukee Bucks took on the Boston Celtics at TD Garden on Monday night, head coach Doc Rivers wanted to address Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s hateful rally at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Sunday night.

“I’m not going to ‘pop’ here today,” Rivers said, referring to San Antonio head coach Gregg Popovich’s interview on Saturday in which Popovich called Donald Trump “pathetic,” “small” and a “damaged man.” referred to a roughly two-and-a-half-minute response to a question about the importance of voting in the presidential election.

“He was right,” Rivers added. “You know everything he said. I just think this election is really important. If you’ve seen Madison Square Garden, I mean, come now…”

Rivers then tapped the table in front of him twice.

“Correct? For me it’s just so important to choose. I’ll keep it as close to that as possible. But my God. When I tell people, if the guy was so great, why did 80 million people vote against him? The last time he ran? I don’t understand it. But we have to do something about it… what we saw (at Madison Square Garden).

“Whether you’re a black man or a black woman or a brown man or Latino or Puerto Rican or — they hit everybody, you know? And it was terrible.”

Rivers has been an outspoken supporter of Democratic presidential candidate and Vice President Kamala Harris and recently hosted a television ad for Harris that aired during sporting events in Wisconsin.

The ad referenced the Trump-endorsed Foxconn deal, which was expected to create up to 13,000 jobs in Mount Pleasant, about 30 miles south of Milwaukee, and Trump’s comments earlier this year that described Milwaukee before the Republican National Convention as “terrible.” “City”. hosted at the Fiserv Forum.

“It was really about voting,” Rivers said. “Obviously I’m biased.”

Rivers campaigned with Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff last week and recounted meeting Harris when she was California’s attorney general and he was head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers.

Early in his tenure as Bucks coach last season, Rivers met with President Joe Biden in Milwaukee.
