Given the timing of JJ McCarthy and Jim Harbaugh’s departures from the program, Michigan football hadn’t entered the transfer portal for another quarterback, and it seemed like it didn’t need to. That’s because the Wolverines happened to receive a waiver for seventh-year forward Jack Tuttle, who transferred to the program from Indiana before last season.

However, Tuttle was often injured and unable to participate in spring ball and most fall camps and was unavailable to play until recently.

The former four-star quarterback, who was the No. 110 overall recruit in the 2018 class, finally got his chance to lead the Corn and Blue offense starting in the second quarter of the Week 6 game in Washington, and he got it His first (and (only now) Michigan start is in Week 8 at Illinois. However, it was clear that he had some issues completing passes and there was speculation that he was still not at full health. For this reason Tuttle has announced that he is retiring for health reasons.

There was speculation that there was something wrong with his throwing arm, but news of the concussion is new.

With Tuttle no longer an option, Michigan will likely stick with the Davis Warren-Alex Orji rotation that beat MSU on Saturday.
