The San Antonio Spurs are at the top of the world.

Well, not really. They sit 10th in the Western Conference after losing Game 1 of their 2024-25 season to the Dallas Mavericks, but they made up for it with a home win against the Houston Rockets – a result Spurs forward Jeremy is counting on Sochan was all too excited for.

Now that they have a win under their belt and another game against the same opponent, it will be up to the Spurs to put in the same effort if they want to try and start a winning streak.

Crucial to this will be smashing the glass to win the rebound battle and scoring from deep, as will another strong performance from Victor Wembanyama. Luckily, he knew how long it would take to get back on his feet – and he’ll try to do it again.

As the second of two battles nears its climax, here’s what you need to know:

Same venue. Same team. At the same time – almost.

The Spurs welcome their in-state rivals for another matchup after what turned out to be a thrilling matchup on Saturday night, and they took care of business in their last outing.

Wembanyama came to life, scoring an efficient 29 points and hitting three blocks, while Julian Champagnie and Harrison Barnes hit their shots from distance and Keldon Johnson came off the bench.

As a team, San Antonio outrebounded Houston and scored more paint points in an aggressive performance that got rough, although Chris Paul largely ignored a scuffle between Wembanyama and Dillon Brooks.

“You’ve seen much worse,” the veteran explained. “Steve Nash ran into the dogged goalscorer’s table, didn’t he? They’re bleeding and all that stuff…come on, man. We’re NBA players.”

The key to the second game between these two teams will be who dominates the boards. If Wembanyama puts in another strong performance and is supported by his supporting cast, Spurs will be in a strong position to claim another win.

If you also win the rebound battle, your chances only increase.
