The Patriots trade LB Joshua Uche to the Chiefs for a sixth-round pick

The Patriots are trading linebacker Joshua Uche to Kansas City for a 2026 sixth-round draft pick, a league source confirmed Monday.

Uche, drafted by the Patriots in 2020, did not play in Sunday’s win over the Jets despite not being listed on the injury report. Uche was on the field for 30.9 percent of the defense’s snaps this season and recorded two sacks and 13 tackles.

When asked Monday morning whether the decision to inactive Uche was related to the NFL’s Nov. 5 trade deadline, coach Jerod Mayo declined to provide an answer.

“It was just a healthy scratch,” Mayo said. “We also need to field the best team that we believe will give us the best chance of winning.”

However, it is clear that the Patriots planned to move the 26-year-old Uche, who was also a trade candidate before the deadline last season. Last year, the Patriots finally met the deadline and re-signed Uche to a one-year deal.

Without Uche, the Patriots will continue to prioritize the development of defensive end Keion White in their pass-rush unit. The same goes for linebacker Anfernee Jennings. The eventual return of defensive tackle Christian Barmore should also strengthen this group.
