Westside teacher, 1 more dead after domestic violence shooting in Sarpy County

CHALCO, Neb. (WOWT) – A Westside High School teacher is dead after a fatal shooting in a neighborhood southeast of 144th Street and Giles Road.

Rebecca Geiger, 45, was identified as one of the shooting victims, officials said in a news conference Monday.

The other victim has not yet been named.

Police responded to the area of ​​South 143rd Street and Meadows Parkway around 3 a.m. Monday. They received a call from a woman who said her father shot her mother and pointed a gun at her.

Authorities said they were at the home about an incident about a month earlier and were told, “Don’t come back.”

When they arrived at the scene on Monday, there were shots fired from someone through the window of the house. Officers reportedly fired back. They went into the house and found a victim. Life-saving measures were performed on the victim but he was pronounced dead, officials said at the news conference.

Authorities say five officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave. None of them were injured.

Investigators are examining body cameras worn by officers as well as cameras inside and outside the home.

An official with the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Department told 6 News that it was originally a “domestic violence-related issue.”

6 News was first on the scene Monday morning.

According to authorities, a news conference is planned for later Monday.
