Washington- President Biden cast his early vote on Monday by just under 10 votes another week or so until election day, as his chosen successor and former rival appears to be stuck in a tight race for the White House.

Mr. Biden cast his vote near Wilmington, Delaware, where he spent the weekend before returning to the White House.

“Let’s go vote,” Mr. Biden said as he walked to the polling station, where he greeted voters alongside Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester, who represents the state in the Senate. When the president was asked after waiting in line to vote if the moment was bittersweet, he replied, “It’s just sweet,” and expressed confidence that Vice President Kamala Harris will win.

The moment comes four years to the day after Mr. Biden cast his vote Race 2020 and would win that the most votes ever cast for a US presidential candidate. This year, the president cast his vote, months after he decided to forfeit his re-election bid and Get out of the presidential raceand endorsed Harris for the Democratic nomination.

Since dropping out of the race, the president has largely stayed away from the campaign trail, often stepping out of the spotlight to give voters a chance to get to know his potential successor. In the meantime, Harris has worked to walk a thin line — embracing the Biden administration’s successes while distancing herself from vulnerabilities among voters.

According to a CBS News poll released Sunday, Harris and former President Donald Trump are tied in battleground states, while Harris has a one-point lead nationally.
