Bears coach faces losing his job after latest blunder cost team in Week 8

The Bears were stunned by one of the most embarrassing plays in recent memory and were shocked by Jayden Daniels and the Commenders in Week 8.

Daniels pulled off a Hail Mary miracle on the final play of the game, handing Chicago an unacceptable loss against one of the NFL’s worst defenses. Caleb Williams and the offense have struggled, although most fans recognize that Shane Waldron’s elemental offense is the biggest hurdle to success.

Few believe the Bears coaching staff will help Williams succeed. Sunday’s defeat showed that these concerns are justified.

While the team eventually took the lead, Waldron’s decision to hand the ball to an offensive lineman in the one-yard range late in the game says it all. The offense eventually reached scoring position, but was undermined by the incompetence of its own coaches.

There is no reason for Waldon to stay on the team. He has consistently demonstrated an inability to make simple adjustments, and his offensive design is best suited to a sixth-grade YMCA team. Williams deserves better, especially considering the talent on the roster.

This loss is a brutal pill to swallow. Williams finished with just 131 yards while completing a paltry 10 of 26 passes. The fans didn’t buy into that, and the Commanders’ defense gave little indication that it could contain Williams the way it did.

Two people deserve the blame: Waldron and head coach Matt Eberflus. Both are obstacles to success, and until Ryan Poles leaves, Williams may never reach his true potential. You don’t have to look far to see examples of high-level coaching with Kevin O’Connell of the Vikings and Ben Johnson of the Lions.

The Bears will stay behind the curve until Eberflus and Waldron are fired. For now, Waldron must start packing his bags if the organization is serious about the real deal.
