Travis Kelce scores the first touchdown of the NFL season after acknowledging a slow start

Travis Kelce is back!

The 35-year-old Kansas City Chiefs tight end scored his first touchdown of the season on Sunday, October 27 – National Tight Ends Day – after previously admitting he had a slow start to the season.

During the Chiefs’ game against the Las Vegas Raiders, Travis caught a touchdown pass during a third-and-goal from quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the second quarter of the game, extending the lead against the Raiders to 14–0 before the second half. The Chiefs ultimately won the match 27:20.

Before Sunday’s touchdown, Travis had gone 12 regular-season games without a touchdown catch.

Before the game, the Ohio native’s career stats were 935 receptions (the fourth-best tight end in NFL history) and 11,573 yards. With that final touchdown, Travis became the fifth tight end to reach 75 career touchdown catches, according to the NFL.

Meanwhile, the 29-year-old Mahomes has also reached an important milestone in his career. According to NBC Sports, he finished the first half of Sunday’s game going 19 of 24 for 192 yards, surpassing the 30,000-yard mark.

At the start of the season, Travis admitted he had a slow start but remained optimistic. “I was really, really mad and almost lost it,” he said in a September episode of his podcast with his brother Jason Kelce. New heights.

“I just like playing the game with such a high level of responsibility that it’s just hard for me to be mediocre or have stats that reflect that,” Travis continued.

“For some reason things haven’t been going my way the last two games, and that’s football, man,” he also noted. “I’m not going to sit here and be frustrated about this.”

Entering Week 8, the Chiefs remained the only undefeated team in the NFL. Following their match against the Raiders, the team will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday, November 4th.
