Cardinals WR Marvin Harrison Jr. didn’t have the rookie season he envisioned but believes he’s making progress

Harrison’s pedigree gives hope that he will have an impressive performance every Sunday. The offense got a taste of that in the first quarter of Week 2 when Harrison rushed for two touchdowns and 130 yards.

This season, Harrison has 20 catches for 300 yards.

“He’s great Monday through Saturday, but he’ll be great on Sunday,” wide receiver Michael Wilson said. “The chemistry is getting better. The production will show. The person he is will be the one who overcomes (adversity) and reaches the level that we all know he can achieve.”

Wilson pointed out that Harrison’s job as an X-receiver goes beyond just catching the ball and winning tackles. As the Cardinals’ top target, he will automatically draw attention. Coach Jonathan Gannon emphasized that Harrison’s presence opened the door for Greg Dortch’s touchdown against the Chargers.

However, it goes beyond Harrison. Monday marked the second straight game in which a wide receiver didn’t lead the team in receiving yards. The Cardinals want to get more out of Dortch, Wilson and Zay Jones.

“We have people in this room who are perfectionists and understand how great we can be, and we haven’t achieved that yet,” Murray said. “I’m excited and very optimistic about where we can take it. I know I keep saying this, but every game is different. You never know when it’s going to work out.”

With first place in the NFC West in sight, Harrison said he is focused on his path for the remainder of the season. When there is pressure, he believes he has the tools to deal with it.

“I just take it one day at a time, one game at a time,” Harrison said. “My goal and focus is always to get better every week. I think this is the best I can do.”
