Patriots QB Drake Maye suffers a concussion in the first half against the Jets

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye will not return to Sunday’s game against the Jets after exiting the first half with a concussion.

Maye went to the locker room while the Patriots offense was off the field early in the second quarter. During the previous drive, which ended in a Patriots punt, Maye was slow to get back to his feet after an 18-yard scramble late in the first quarter.

The rookie stayed in the game after his first-down run, handed the ball over twice (the first time being negated by a penalty), took a sack and threw an incompletion on third down before the Patriots put the ball away.

It was initially considered questionable whether Maye would return before Mayo ruled him out.

Jacoby Brissett came on for Maye on the Patriots’ next possession midway through the second quarter. The Jets held a 13-7 lead when the Patriots offense ran without Maye on the field for the first time on Sunday.

Maye opened the scoring Sunday in Foxborough with a 17-yard touchdown run, ending New England’s second drive of the game. He was 3 of 6 passing for 23 yards and managed 46 rushing yards before exiting early.

The Patriots play at the Tennessee Titans next week.
