Sole possession of first place in the NFC South is at stake on Sunday when the Atlanta Falcons visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Falcons are a slight away favorite, even though they suffered a bad loss to the Seattle Seahawks last week.

Atlanta won the last meeting between the two teams in overtime a few weeks ago. Another win on Sunday would not only give the Falcons the top spot in the NFC South, but also the season tiebreaker.

The biggest problem for the Buccaneers – and perhaps the driving force behind their status as underdogs at home – is the fact that they have been decimated by injuries at wide receiver after losing Evans and Godwin in Monday night’s loss to the Ravens .

With Evans and Godwin out, there isn’t another wide receiver on the roster who has more than eight catches this season. That will put a lot of pressure on quarterback Baker Mayfield to find plays on offense, and he will likely have to rely on tight end Cade Otton and running backs Rachaad White and Bucky Irving to make plays. Tampa Bay could also have problems on defense when it comes to stopping the Falcons’ passing game. The Buccaneers are allowing 254 passing yards per game (fourth-most in the NFL) and not only were they embarrassed by Jackson on Monday night, but they also had no answer for Cousins ​​in Week 5, when he threw four touchdowns and had his best game as Player played falcon.

Atlanta is only 2-4 as an away favorite compared to the last three years. The Buccaneers are 3-5 against the spread over the same period as home underdogs. Something has to give here.
