COLLEGE PARK, MD – The No. 2 Maryland men’s soccer team begins Friday with a two-game road series against Michigan in Ann Arbor. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on B1G+.

The Terrapins finished their two games at home with a 1-1 tie against then-No. 19 UCLA. Sadam Masereka He scored the first goal for the Terps in the 25th minute, his third goal in the last four games.   • Jason Bucknor leads the team with five goals on the season, ranking sixth in the Big Ten. The Wolverines are led in assists by Beto Soto, whose nine assists lead the Big Ten and are the third-most in Division I.
  • Isaiah Goldson leads the Wolverines in scoring, starting 10 games this season. Goldson enters the game with 34 saves and three shutouts on the year. Goldson posted a season-high six saves early in the season against Ohio State and made four or more saves in five games.

  • UCLA and Maryland met 13 times in the all-time series, with Maryland coming out on top with a record of 6-4-3. The last meeting between the two teams took place in the 2023 season, with the teams playing to a 2-2 draw at College Park.
  • Michigan opened the scoring in the 13th minute on a goal by Michael Leon, but Maryland responded in the 27th minute, tying the game and scoring his first career goal. Luke van Heukelum added the second goal for the Terps, which was also his first collegiate goal. Michigan tied the game in the 62nd minute with a goal from Bryce Blevins.

  • Second semester Leon Koehl are at the top of the table with six goals this season, all scored from penalties. Koehl’s effectiveness on the penalty kill will be highly valued by the Terps after the team failed to capitalize on all four of their chances in 2023.
  • Koehl is 6-6 from the penalty spot in 2024, the most for a Terps player since Patrick Mullins was 9-9 in 2013. Koehl’s six penalty goals are the most in the Big Ten and the most in Division I.
  • Koehl scored twice in consecutive games for the Terps on penalties this season. Koehl first achieved this feat on September 2nd against Virginia and on September 6th against Brown. He scored on penalties in Maryland’s last two games, with PK goals at Indiana on Sept. 20 and at Northwestern on Sept. 27. Koehl also joins Johnston in scoring penalty goals in consecutive games during the 2022 season against Virginia on September 27, September 5, 2022 and at Georgetown on September 10, 2022.

  • Yale transfer Max Rogers was a crucial part of Maryland’s offensive effort. Rogers currently has seven assists on the campaign, which is the second most in the Big Ten.
  • Rogers was involved in all three of the Terps’ goals in their conference-opening win over Wisconsin on September 20. Rogers received his first assist of the game in the 17th minute when he took a corner kick into the box in preparation Chris Steinleitner for his first goal in a Maryland jersey. His second assist came just after half-time, delivering a free kick to the back post Bjarne Thiesen to double the Terps lead to 2-0. Rogers’ final assist came in the 53rd minute when he scored Colin Griffith in space for a shot just outside the penalty area.
  • It was the second straight season a Terps player recorded three assists in a game Luke van Heukelum He collected three assists in Maryland’s victory over Villanova on October 10, 2023.

Max Rogers leads the Terps with seven assists this season. That total is the second-highest in the Big Ten.

The Griffith Show

  • With a game-winning goal in the 74th minute against Washington, Colin Griffith scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season. Six goals is also a career high for goals in a single season for the junior forward. Griffith’s previous season high was three during his first season in 2022.
  • It was the fourth consecutive game that Griffith scored in a match. Griffith previously scored against Northwestern (September 27) and Penn State (October 1). The last Terp with a point streak as long as Griffith was Ben Bender, who scored in five straight games in 2021.
  • Griffith has now scored twice in consecutive games this season. Earlier this season, Griffith scored in back-to-back games against San Diego State on September 9th and against No. 8 Wisconsin on September 13th. It was the second time in his career that Griffith scored in consecutive games. Griffith last scored goals in consecutive games on November 4, 2022 against Northwestern and on November 9, 2022 against Indiana.

Griffith scored in his fourth straight game on October 11 against Washington. Griffith has scored twice in consecutive games this season. This is the second time this season and the third time in his career that the junior forward has accomplished this. The first time it happened November 4, 2022 against Northwestern and November 9, 2022 against Indiana.

  • The Terps have been on a roll since a 2-0 loss to then-No. 16 Georgetown. Since that loss, the Terps have enjoyed an impressive undefeated streak.
  • The 1-1 draw against UCLA extended the Terps’ undefeated streak to 12 straight games, with a record of 8-0-4 during that streak. The last time the Terps had a double-digit unbeaten streak was in 2017, when they started the season with a 13-game unbeaten streak (10-0-3). The 12-game unbeaten streak is the second-longest active streak in the country. Maryland trails Western Michigan, which began the season with a 15-game unbeaten streak.

The Terps are undefeated in their last 12 games, with a record of 8-0-4 during the series. The last double-digit unbeaten streak for the Terps came in 2017, when they started the season with a 13-game unbeaten streak.
