Kansas State Players of the Game win over Kansas

Kansas State Offensive MVP: Avery Johnson

Kansas State’s offense was inconsistent most of the night against Kansas. However, Avery Johnson was probably the most consistent player. The second-year quarterback threw for 253 yards and two touchdowns while getting the ball into tight windows. One of his best plays was in the rollout Will Anciaux in the first half to tie the game at seven. Johnson also used his legs well when rushing for 67 yards and a touchdown.

Jayce Brown had five catches for 98 yards but went without a catch in the second half. DJ Giddens just keep producing. Even on what felt like a bad night for him, the Junction City product still managed over 100 yards, finishing with 102. Dylan Edwards continues to make the most of his touches with five catches for a total of 80 yards, including a 44-yard run.

Defensive MVP: Austin Romaine

To be honest, for most of the game I didn’t think Kansas State would have a defensive MVP. K-State’s defense struggled against the offense and only left the field when Kansas made mistakes.

However, the biggest play of the game was made by Austin Romaine. The sophomore linebacker forced a fumble on a 2nd-and-13 run over Jalon Daniels which was restored by Brendan Mott. It’s the second time Romaine has forced a fumble in the second half of a game this season. Remember, he forced a fumble on Tulane in the second half that was ruled for a touchdown.

The second biggest play of the game came from VJ Payne. His chase down tackle on Daniels on fourth down secured K-State’s 16th straight win over the Jayhawks.

K-State Special Teams MVP: Chris Tennant

I mean, who else would it be? Chris Tennant was perfect on both of his field goals, including a game-winning 51-yarder. The 51-yard kick ended his career at Kansas State.
