The Dodgers’ $71 million star is expected to join the Blue Jays in a blockbuster deal

The Los Angeles Dodgers will face the New York Yankees in the World Series starting October 25th. The Dodgers need to capitalize on their great roster as many key players will be headed to free agency after the season ends.

While predicting where the Dodgers’ free agents will end up, FanSided’s Zach Pressnell predicted Teoscar Hernández will sign with the Toronto Blue Jays.

“(Jack) Flaherty, Hernandez and (Joe) Kelly could all return to their former teams,” Pressnell wrote. “The Toronto Blue Jays need an outfielder to play center field and Hernandez fits their culture, payroll and winning attitude.”

Hernández began his career with the Blue Jays before moving to the Seattle Mariners and ultimately signing with the Dodgers in free agency prior to the 2024 season. Hernández signed a one-year, $23.5 million contract with the Dodgers, with $8.5 million deferred. He was named an All-Star and hit a career-best 33 home runs.

Spotrac expects Hernández to sign a three-year, $71 million contract in free agency. As much as the Dodgers would like to have him back, perhaps they see a greater need at shortstop and will look to spend big on Willy Adames or another top-notch shortstop.

Hernández was named a 2021 Blue Jays All-Star. A return to the club could be a game-changer for him as he has proven he deserves a long-term contract. He also performed well in the postseason, hitting .333 with two home runs against the San Diego Padres in the National League Division Series.
