Big Ten Football Week 9 Capsules

The Big Ten Conference has five AP Top 25 teams heading into week nine of the season. All five of these teams will be in action in the seven league games this weekend.

USC 42, Rutgers 20

USC ended a three-game losing streak by taking a 21-3 lead and never letting the game get closer than eight points. The Trojans improve to 4-4 on the year and 2-4 in the Big Ten Conference, while the Scarlet Knights are now 4-4 overall and 1-4 in the league.

Athan Kaliakmanis had quite a night for the Scarlet Knights, throwing for 313 yards and a touchdown, with 131 of those yards going to Dymere Miller. Kyle Monangai ran for 86 yards.

Miller Moss completed 20 of 28 passes for the Trojans for 308 yards and two touchdowns. Makai Lemon rushed for 134 yards and a score. Woody Marks ran for three touchdowns and 94 yards on 15 carries.

No. 4 Ohio State 21, Nebraska 17

Nebraska’s defense kept the Huskers in the game until the offense took the lead in the fourth quarter, but Ohio State marched and regained the lead for good to stop the surprise attack. The Buckeyes improve to 6-1 on the year and 3-1 in Big Ten play, while the Huskers fall to 5-3 overall and 2-3 in league play.

Huskers quarterback Dylan Raiol threw 152 yads and one interception. Dante Dowdell ran for 60 yards and a touchdown.

Buckeyes QB Will Howard threw for 221 yards, three scores and one interception. Carnell Tate managed 102 yards and a touchdown through the air.

No. 13 Indiana 31, Washington 17

Curt Cignetti and Indiana haven’t trailed yet this season, and that continued Saturday with a two-point win over Washington. The Hoosiers are 8-0 for the second time in school history, while the Huskies fall to 4-4 on the year and 2-3 in the Big Ten.

Huskies quarterback Will Rogers was 19 of 26 through the air for 202 yards but threw two interceptions. Jonah Coleman ran for 104 yards.

Hoosiers QB Tayven Jackson started in place of the injured Kurtis Rourke and threw for 124 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Judge Ellison led the offense with 123 yards and a score on the ground.

No. 1 Oregon 38, No. 20 Illinois 9

Oregon turned a 14-3 lead after 1-1 into a 35-3 halftime lead and headed toward another win. The Ducks remain undefeated while the Illini fall to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the conference.

Illini QB Luke Altmyer struggled, completing less than 50% of his passes for 161 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions. Aidan Laughery had 69 yards on the ground.

Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel threw for 291 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Tez Johnson caught six passes for 102 yards and a sorre. Jordan James ran for 83 yards.

Iowa 40, Northwest 14

A 28-point third-quarter performance sealed the victory for Iowa. The Hawkeyes are now 5-3 on the year and 3-2 in the Big Ten, while the Wildcats fall to 3-5 overall and 1-4 in the league.

Northwestern managed just 163 yards on the day, including 43 yards on the ground. Jack Lausch threw for 62 yards and two interceptions, while Ryan Hilinski threw for 58 yards.

For Iowa, Brenden Sullivan and Cade McNamara combined for 152 yards through the air in a 16-for-27 win. Sullivan also ran for 41 yards and a touchdown. Kaleb Johnson rushed for 109 yards and three scores.

Minnesota 48, Maryland 23

Minnesota scored the first 24 points of the game, ending the contest early. The Golden Gophers improve to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in the league, while the Maryland Terrapins are now 4-4 on the year and 1-4 in conference play.

The Terrapins threw for 323 yards on the day, including 201 yards and two interceptions from Billy Edwards Jr. and 122 yards and two touchdowns from MJ Morris. Tai Felton caught nine passes for 104 yards.

Max Brosmer completed 26 of 33 passes for 320 yards and four touchdowns for the Golden Gophers. Daniel Jackson (117 yards) and Elijah Spencer (97 yards) each scored two touchdowns. Darius Taylor ran for 81 yards and a score.

Michigan State at Michigan at 6:30 p.m. CDT on Big Ten Network

Purdue and UCLA are not in action this week.
