Week 9 Prediction, Tips, Odds

The Oklahoma Sooners face the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday in Oxford, Mississippi. It’s the first time the Sooners have played a football game in Mississippi and it’s only the second time they’ve played the Rebels.

The two programs have failed to live up to expectations this season. Ole Miss was considered an SEC title contender, but losses to Kentucky and LSU have put their conference title hopes on life support. They’re still gunning for a spot in the College Football Playoff in 2024, but they can’t afford another loss due to their weak non-conference schedule.

The Sooners are an even bigger disappointment as they are 4-3 this season and just 1-3 in SEC play. What’s even more concerning is that the offense is averaging just 11.75 points per game in SEC play across its four contests. The defense played well and improved significantly compared to last year’s defense. But the defense can’t do everything. Oklahoma needs Jackson Arnold and the Sooners offense to carry their share of the load.

Deion Burks update

Brent Venables mentioned that Deion Burks was day-to-day when he met with the media on Tuesday. However, he suffered a setback in practice that makes him doubtful for Week 9 against Ole Miss.

Gavin Sawchuk update

Running back Gavin Sawchuk suffered a hamstring injury that kept him out of last week’s loss to South Carolina. It’s unlikely he’ll be available this week either.

Ole Miss Rebels injury report:

player position As of October 23rd

Tre Harris update

The SEC’s leading receiver is still questionable following Thursday’s injury report. If he is unavailable, that would make the Sooners’ job on defense a little easier.

Oklahoma vs Ole Miss Prediction, Picks

The Oklahoma Sooners head on the road to face one of the best defenses in the country in the Ole Miss Rebels. Even though the Sooners may not be able to score, the defense should be able to keep the ball close. Ole Miss is just 1-2 in SEC play this season, and both losses were one-point games.

Prediction: 20-13
