Voters in 10 Florida counties will be asked whether they want to retain five of the nine judges on the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Voters will be asked a yes or no question about whether they want to keep the five justices in office, with a yes vote to keep them or a no vote to remove them.

All nine justices were appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis and have served since January 1, 2023, with the exception of Gannam, who joined the court on September 5, 2023.

Who is Judge Joshua Mize?

Mize received his bachelor’s degree in history and finance from the University of Florida. He then attended the University of Florida College of Law and graduated magna cum laude in the top 2% of his class, according to the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

“While in law school, Judge Mize served as editor of the Florida Law Review and president of the University of Florida Chapter of the Federalist Society. Upon graduation, Judge Mize was inducted into the Order of the Coif based on his academic achievements. “

Mize began his career in private practice at a prominent law firm in Tampa before practicing law at two national law firms as well as his own law firm, representing complex commercial litigation, intellectual property disputes and consumer protection cases in federal and state courts throughout the United States.

In February 2021, Mize was appointed to the Ninth Circuit. Voters in Orange and Osceola counties elected him to retain that position in 2022. He was appointed to the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals by Ron DeSantis on January 1, 2023.

Mize is a member of the Orange County Bar Association and the Federalist Society.

The Sixth District Court of Appeals, based in Lakeland, became the state’s newest appeals court in January 2023. It represents residents in 10 counties, divided into three districts:
