Bronny James will reportedly split time between the LA Lakers and the G League | Los Angeles Lakers

Bronny James will continue to share the court with his legendary father on the Los Angeles Lakers’ upcoming road trip before moving to a shuttle between the active roster and the Lakers’ South Bay G League affiliate, ESPN reported Friday.

Bronny James made history with his father, LeBron James, in Tuesday’s season-opening win over the Minnesota Timberwolves as the pair became the first father-son duo to play in an NBA game together.

After home games on Friday and Saturday, the Lakers hit the road for the following five games, starting October 28 against the host Phoenix Suns and ending November 6 in Memphis, with stops in Cleveland, Toronto and Detroit.

Wednesday’s game against the Cavaliers is expected to be a highlight of the trip and a homecoming of sorts for the pair. A native of Akron, Ohio, LeBron was drafted by Cleveland with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft and spent the first seven years of his career there before later adding another four seasons in Cleveland. Bronny was born in October 2004 as his father was preparing for his second season in Cleveland.

Both LeBron and Lakers coach JJ Redick assumed Bronny would spend time honing his skills in the G League.

“I’m just excited to see him continue to develop as a basketball player, whether it’s here with us or on the G League team, and he just keeps getting better and better,” LeBron said at media day in September. “His job is to put in the work and keep getting better, just like the rest of us. And we want to hold him accountable, and he will hold us accountable. And when we all do that, we all get better because we are all a team. We are a reflection of the South Bay; South Bay is a reflection of who we are.”

First-year coach Redick has expressed a desire to establish an elite player development program using the G League.

“As we prioritize player development, we look at Bronny as case study one because his fundamental feel, his athleticism, his point-of-defense attack, his shooting, his passing – there’s a lot to like about his game,” said Redick in July, according to ESPN. “And as we expand our player development program holistically, he will have a great opportunity to become an outstanding NBA player.”
