Ravenwood stuns Oakland in OT in TSSAA football showdown

The top-ranked TSSAA Class 6A football teams put on a show commensurate with their rankings on Friday.

No. 2 Ravenwood converted two points in overtime to beat top-ranked Oakland 32-31 on Friday in Murfreesboro

Oakland’s Craig Tutt scored with a 4-yard touchdown run as the Patriots got the ball first in overtime and took a 31-24 lead, but Ravenwood scored with a 10-yard touchdown on the first possession of their drive -Catch by Ben Hubbard all alone in the game’s end zone. Ravenwoods QB Femi Babalola then found a flying Patrick Sullivan in the end zone for the two-point win.

The Raptors (9-0) defeated the Patriots for the first time in five tries, while the Patriots suffered their first loss of the season.

Oakland jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game after Kyler Creasy’s 1-yard touchdown run on a sneak after a long catch-and-run by Daune Morris and a 74-yard Chase Bandy’s touchdown catch after a Ravenwood punt.

Ravenwood scored the next 14 points, with the Raptors’ offense gaining momentum on Donovan Starr’s 65-yard touchdown catch and a Jaylen Pollard touchdown run. The Patriots regained the lead with a 17-14 field goal before halftime, and the two teams traded touchdowns in the third quarter.

After Ravenwood’s game-winning field goal with 2:22 left, Creasy drove the Oakland offense into Raptors territory but couldn’t get close enough for a field goal attempt. The game went into overtime, where Ravenwood and coach Will Hester claimed victory.
