Trump remembers Joe Rogan’s first day in the White House: ‘It was surreal’

Former President Donald Trump recalled his first day in the White House to podcast host Joe Rogan on Friday, calling it a “surreal” moment.

Trump joined “The Joe Rogan Experience” on Friday for a highly anticipated interview. Rogan began the three-hour episode by asking the former president to describe how he felt when he entered the White House in January 2017.

“It was very surreal…when I got shot, it wasn’t surreal. “That should have been surreal,” Trump said, referring to the first assassination attempt against him in July.

“So, I’m driving down Pennsylvania Avenue… you’ve never seen so many motorcycles, police, military… and I wanted to go out and wave to everyone, but that wasn’t smart,” he continued. “But I really felt like – I don’t know, the love was so crazy.”

Rogan also asked Trump to explain how he felt about his own “ability to govern” upon entering the White House, pointing out that the former president had never held elected office up to that point.

“This is your first experience of governing anything… now all of a sudden you’re in the White House,” Rogan said.

“The greatest thing for me was just the first moment of being in this holy, really holy place,” Trump replied. “For me that was the experience, it was a surreal experience.”

The Friday interview was published almost two weeks before Election Day. A poll released Friday by The New York Times and the Siena College Research Institute found Trump and Vice President Kamala Harrisare in a dead heat in the race for the White House. Both candidates received the support of 48% of the 2,516 voters surveyed.
