No threat identified as lockdown ends at Marysville Pilchuck High School

The Marysville Police Department (MPD) reported Friday morning that it deployed a large response team to Marysville Pilchuck High School (MPHS) while the school was on lockdown.

According to the school, all students and staff are safe. According to KIRO Newsradio, there was no shooter on campus.

“At no time did we find anyone on campus who shouldn’t be there,” Marysville Police Commander Robb Lamoureux said. “We didn’t find any weapons there. We have not identified any threats against students or staff.”

During the MPD investigation, the department learned that the 911 call was a voiceover Internet Protocol call from California. MPD believes it is highly likely the call was a “swatting” call – a criminal harassment attempt to trick an emergency responder into dispatching police or an EMS team to a specific location.

Lamoureux said the call indicated there was an active shooter at MPHS.

“Out of an abundance of caution, MPHS is currently on lockdown due to reported safety concerns,” the school wrote in a news release on social media. “Law enforcement is on scene and is investigating the report. We will provide an update as soon as possible. All students and staff are safe here too.”

Yesterday was the 10th anniversary of a shooting at MPHS.

Police are asking the public to keep 911 lines open for emergencies only.
