Obama rally for Harris could cause heavy traffic in uptown Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – Former President Barack Obama is scheduled to speak at a rally for Vice President Kamala Harris in Charlotte on Friday afternoon – and traffic could be affected.

The rally was scheduled to take place on Friday, October 25th at the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte’s bustling Uptown neighborhood. The location of the rally may cause traffic congestion in the area, especially on a Friday evening.

Obama was scheduled to take the stage Friday around 6 p.m. to speak in favor of Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee. The Harris campaign said the door to the event was scheduled to open at 4 p.m.

Those wishing to attend the event are asked to take public transportation or rideshare services such as Uber or Lyft instead of driving. As usual, street parking will be quite limited in Uptown, but public lots and garages are available around town.

Anyone who wants to attend must register online for free – but an RSVP does not guarantee entry.

The U.S. Secret Service will operate a security checkpoint similar to an airport checkpoint at the event, officials said. Only small bags of clutch size or smaller are permitted. Items such as weapons, firearms, e-cigarettes, lighters, liquids, signs, animals, umbrellas and the like are not permitted in the center.

A more comprehensive list of prohibited items can be found here.
