Harris and Trump visit the Lone Star State on Friday

Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump will be in the Lone Star State on Friday, rallying their supporters as the 2024 presidential election nears the finish line.

Harris arrived in Houston on Thursday evening.

She is hosting a campaign event that is expected to be attended by scores of women affected by the state’s restrictive abortion laws.

U.S. Senate candidate and congressman Collin Allred, who is challenging Sen. Ted Cruz, plans to join her.

Numerous stars are expected from Texas, including Willie Nelson and Beyoncé, whose song “Freedom” is Harris’ campaign anthem.

During her visit to H-Town, she will also reportedly appear on a podcast with Brené Brown, who will discuss topics such as vulnerability, empathy and leadership.

Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump is making a stop in Austin, where he plans to address the media about border security and migrant crime at a private jet terminal.

He will then interview Joe Rogan on his podcast “The Joe Rogan Experience.”

Rogan’s podcast has more than 17 million followers on YouTube – data shows his audience is predominantly young and male.

Trump will then reportedly make a visit to Houston himself to speak at a rally at the Mattress Mack store.

The political science professor Dr. Rice University’s Mark Jones says the candidates’ messages Friday in Texas are designed to reach swing states.

“They’re both coming to Texas to reach the battleground states,” Jones said. “They just do it in different ways. So both Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are coming to Texas, and while they are in Texas, their target will continue to be voters in the seven battleground states.”

According to Joshua Blank, research director of the Texas Politics Project, Texas is slowly slipping down that competitive scale.

“That’s because it’s a big state with huge media markets and a lot of campaign donors, and it really becomes a lens through which you can communicate with voters well beyond the state’s borders,” Blank said.

Campaign officials viewed Harris’ visit to Texas as an unconventional way to capture the attention of the state’s embattled voters.

Trump is visiting Austin for the first time since May 2022, when he spoke at the convention center as part of the American Freedom Tour.

Millions of ballots were cast across the country.

Early voting in Texas runs through Friday, November 1st.

Election day is Tuesday, November 5th.
