Nicole Kidman says exploring kink in the ‘Babygirl’ movie requires “tremendous” trust

Nicole Kidman talks about producing her new erotic thriller.

The Oscar winner, 57, spoke about her work on the widely watched program Baby girl during a question-and-answer session at the London West Hollywood in Los Angeles on Friday, October 18, where she was joined by co-star Harris Dickinson, 28, and writer-director Halina Reijn following a screening of her film.

When asked about exploring kink-in Baby girlKidman said “a tremendous amount of trust” was key to creating the dynamic and complexity that exists between her and Dickinson’s characters. “We looked at each other and said, ‘Okay,'” she said.

“Of course, there were days where I was really afraid of a scene or didn’t know how to do it,” added Dickinson, who previously starred in that scene The Iron Claw. But “there was never a day when we never felt like time was more important when the scene wasn’t working or we were feeling uncomfortable or not getting something. It was just like, ‘Okay, everyone go away.’ for a second.’ ”

Kidman said having Reijn at the helm helped her feel more comfortable with the production Baby girlin which she plays a powerful executive who begins an affair with an intern (Dickinson) at her company while her husband (Antonio Banderas) remains in the dark.

“As an actress, I was always looking, I’m always going, where haven’t I been? And what can I explore as a human being? And that was an area I had never been in before,” she said.

“It’s kind of jumping off the cliff, okay, I’m just going to give up everything and explore this with the people I trust, in a genre that’s already set, but hopefully we can explore new territory and especially with the woman at the helm.”

Baby girlwhich explores sexuality and desire through a flipped narrative of a woman in a position of power, felt “liberating” at times, Kidman added.

And she said, “You have your director at the helm saying, ‘I’m going to protect you. Nothing that will be in the film will be anything that you are not comfortable with. You will be fine.’ “

Still, the experience took its toll. Speaking of film with Vanity Fair Ahead of the world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in August, Kidman explained how the role “left her ragged.”

“At some point I thought: I don’t want to be touched. I don’t want to do this anymore, but at the same time I was forced into it,” she said. “Halina held me and I held her because it was just very confronting for me.”

“It’s like, ‘Gosh, I’m doing this, and now the world is actually going to see it.’ “It’s a really strange feeling,” he said Big little lies Star said. “It’s something you do and hide in your home videos. It’s something that isn’t normally seen by the world.”

During a news conference in Venice this month, Kidman said she never felt exploited at work Baby girl‘s intimate sequences.

“That’s what made it so fascinating to be in Halina’s hands because I knew she wouldn’t exploit me,” she told reporters. “I mean, however you interpret it, I didn’t feel exploited. I felt very much a part of it. It’s the story I wanted to be a part of, the story I wanted to tell. And every part of me was committed to this.”

Kidman added of the cast and crew: “We all took tremendous care. We were all very, very gentle with each other and helped each other.”

Baby girl hits theaters on December 25th.
