La Masia delivers: Hansi Flick shows Barcelona’s youth strength against Bayern Munich

Barcelona’s most recent game against Bayern Munich will be remembered for the impressive 4-1 win. However, amidst the excitement surrounding the score, one crucial detail may have been lost.

On this important evening, Hansi Flick met his former team and started with six players from the academy.

These players included Inaki Pena, Pau Cubarsi, Alejandro Balde, Marc Casado, Lamine Yamal and Fermin Lopez, underlining Barcelona’s commitment to developing homegrown talent.

As the game continued, Flick further underlined this commitment by introducing Dani Olmo, another product of Barcelona’s youth system, alongside other talents such as Gavi and Ansu Fati.

This meant that Flick started the game with six academy players and ended it with seven on the field.

This represents a notable achievement as it represents the highest number of academy graduates playing together this season compared to the previous clash with Sevilla.

La Masia takes care of that

Due to a series of injuries to key players, Flick is increasingly relying on young talent at the start of the season. Since the game against Alaves, the squad has consisted of six young players.

Previously, Flick had also used five youth players in various games against teams such as Valencia, Girona, Monaco, Getafe, Osasuna and Young Boys.

Remarkably, Tito Vilanova still holds the record for the highest number of academy graduates on the pitch at the same time.

On November 25, 2012, Vilanova fielded an incredible 11 homegrown players in a league game against Levante, leading Barcelona to a comfortable 4-0 away win.

Barcelona’s focus on youth development continues to shape the club’s identity and competitive spirit, highlighting the potential of its academy to produce skilled players capable of competing at the highest level.

The recent game against Bayern Munich serves as a reminder of this enduring legacy as the next generation of talent steps into the spotlight.
