He had an accident and was late for work. Boss said: “Only death can…”

A manager’s insensitive response to his employee’s car accident has sparked massive outrage on social media. The conversation began with the employee sending a photo of his car with the front completely crushed to illustrate the severity of the accident.

Instead of asking how the employee was doing, the manager replied, “Keep me updated on when you expect to be here.” A day later, after receiving no response, the manager sent another message saying it said: “It’s understandable why you’re late, but whatever prevents you from being at work, other than a death in the family, is unexcused in any company.”

The post angered users, who were shocked by the manager’s reaction to a potentially life-threatening accident.

One user replied: “I insult him or her and then get a new job.”

Another user wrote: “Managers like that scare me, is your life that miserable?!”

Someone said, “I would quit this job.”

“‘Unexcused in any company,’ my boss has since let me go home during work hours to adopt a cat we found,” one user said.

Previously, a product designer quit on the first day of his new job because working conditions were poor and his supervisor made unreasonable demands. The manager reportedly expected him to work overtime for no extra pay and dismissed work-life balance as a “fine term” associated with “the behavior of Western industrialized nations.”

He was taken aback when the manager insisted on 12- to 14-hour workdays without compensation. His attempts to set boundaries were met with ridicule, and the manager made personal attacks on his need for private time, such as reading and exercising.

In his resignation letter, he criticized the manager’s unprofessional behavior and, in a Reddit post, urged others to put their health and well-being first.
