NFL trade news: Titans send away DeAndre Hopkins before Lions game

The Detroit Lions are over 10-point favorites against the Tennessee Titans this week, and their path to victory may have just gotten easier. As ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported, the Titans are completing a trade to send All-Pro receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Kansas City Chiefs. At this point the trading conditions are not yet available.

UPDATE: According to Ian Rapoport, it appears to cost the Chiefs a conditional fifth-round pick that could turn into a fourth-round pick.

It’s a nice break for the Lions, even if Hopkins (32) isn’t at his best. The Titans passing attack struggled greatly due to poor quarterback play from Will Levis and Mason Rudolph. However, removing the top option probably won’t help improve the device. So far this season, Hopkins has only had 15 catches for 173 yards and a single touchdown. His 28.8 receiving yards per game average this season is easily the worst performance of his 12-year career and is well below his previous low (50.1).

That means you’ll take advantage of every advantage you can get in the NFL. Although the Titans still have good receivers like Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd, this remains one of the most ineffective passing attacks in football through seven weeks. The Titans rank 32nd in yards per attempt (4.2), last in passer rating (71.2), 28th in interceptions (eight) and 24th in touchdowns.

The Lions’ pass defense has had an up-and-down start to the season. While they were aggressive with the ball, ranking third in pass deflections (36) and fifth in interceptions, they also allowed the sixth-most passing yards per game (245.8).
