Democrat ‘Accidentally SHOT’ reporter with AR-15 at campaign rally

Sen. Josh Hawley is attacking his 2024 Democratic challenger after a man was hit in the arm by shrapnel from an AR-15 cartridge at a campaign rally on Tuesday.

A bullet fragment hit television reporter Ryan Gamboa as he was at the shooting range covering the campaign rally for Senate candidate Lucas Kunce.

The Democrat held the event with former Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger before having to help the KSHB-TV journalist. Kunce was pictured bandaging Gamboa’s bloody arm.

“Great day at the range today with my friend Adam Kinzinger,” Kunce wrote. “We were able to spend time with some union members while exercising our freedom.”

“Always keep your first aid kit handy,” he continued in an X post. “Shrapnel can always fly when you hit a target like today and you have to be ready.” “We had four first aid kits so we were able to get the situation under control and I’m glad Ryan is okay goes and he was able to continue reporting.”

But Republican Sen. Hawley didn’t miss the opportunity to attack the man who was poised to win his seat in the election in just 14 days.

“When liberals play with guns, people get hurt,” he wrote on X, adding a clown emoji.

In another post Tuesday evening, he asked the question: “Will the shot reporter press charges against Kunce?”

Kunce was hosting a campaign rally at a private home near Holt, north of Kansas City, Missouri, on Tuesday when a bullet fragment from an AR-15 shot ricocheted off a target and hit the local reporter’s arm.

Kunce, who spent 13 years in the Marines, wrapped gauze around Gamboa’s arm to stop the bleeding. The wound was later wrapped with medical tape.

After his arm was treated, Gamboa remained at the range to finish his assignment.

There is a picture of the reporter holding up a microphone during a joint interview with Kunce and Kinzinger, with blood stains on the outstretched microphone-carrying arm of his shirt.

Kinzinger, an anti-Trump congressman from Illinois who now supports Democrats, attended Kunce’s campaign rally on Tuesday.

“I condemn all acts of violence against reporters and urge Kunce to never shoot one again,” Hawley wrote with laughing emojis.

Kunce won’t have an easy time ousting Hawley, who is seeking a second term in the U.S. Senate.

A September Emerson College/The Hill poll shows Hawley’s support at 51 percent of voters, while Kunce’s support is at 40 percent.
