Beware of these flooded roads in KZN

The Ministry of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) has urged motorists to be aware of a number of flooded roads as the province received so much rain this week.

The heavy rains that began on Sunday have already led to flooding of several roads and affected traffic in major cities such as eThekwini.

Roads that have been flooded and require alternative routes include:

  • The N2 northbound, which meets the N3 under the spaghetti junction, is flooded.
  • N2 northbound from Isipingo slip road: Avoid left lane as it is flooded.
  • M4 from Bluff: Flooded two lanes left before Esplanade junction, usual area.
  • The left lane of the N2 northbound near the old airport is flooded.
  • R102 Caneland junction: right lane flooded.
  • Higginson Chatsworth: Flooded just before the traffic lights in Havenside, 2 lanes blocked on the left, towards Durban.
  • N3 Eastbound, Brickfield Road (Malls Tiles): Fast lane and center lane flooded.
  • Flooding on Umgeni Road westbound on the on-ramp and off-ramp to the N2.
  • Flooding at St Johns Ave, Pinetown on the M13.

Cogta MEC Rev Thulasizwe Buthelezi has urged residents to remain vigilant as adverse weather conditions continue to prevail across much of the province.

Cogta added that while no major incidents have been reported so far, residents are advised to heed the weather service’s weather advisory.

The Level 6 disruptive rainfall warning remained in force on Monday for the eThekwini metro and parts of Ilembe, Ugu, uMgungundlovu and King Cetshwayo districts.

A Level 4 severe thunderstorm warning is also in effect for the rest of the province on Monday.

The provincial disaster management center is monitoring weather conditions and is ready to intervene if the situation deteriorates further.
