Score, highlights from MNF week 7

The NFL heads west in Week 7 for a Monday Night Football matchup between the Los Angeles Chargers and Arizona Cardinals.

The Cardinals have lost three of their last four games and overall Arizona’s offense has been mixed. The Redbird midfield offense ranks 17th in points scored and 15th in yards allowed. The Cardinals didn’t break the 15-point mark in those losses, which is probably very frustrating for Kyler Murray, who has thrown eight touchdown passes this season.

Against the Chargers’ stout defense, getting their offense on track will be a big task. Los Angeles has the best scoring defense in football and has allowed just 66 points in five games this season. That’s the MO of Jim Harbaugh, whose teams traditionally played great defense and ran the ball with great success.

This could also prove to be a nightmare for the Cardinals defense. Arizona has struggled to stop the run in 2024 as it ranks near the bottom of the NFL in rushing yards and rushing TDs allowed.

USA TODAY Sports will provide live updates, highlights and more from the Cardinals vs. Chargers Week 7 matchup below.

Cameron Dicker kicked a 50-yard field goal as the clock showed zero in the second quarter, leaving the game tied at just one point at halftime.

Arizona’s second-quarter touchdown drive was the best drive of the day, but it didn’t do much good before or after. Luckily, the defense kept Los Angeles from scoring a touchdown, including the Chargers’ critical fumble in the end zone. Justin Herbert had a good day with 172 passing yards on 13 completions, but the ground game was limited to just 25 yards.

Kyler Murray is 9 of 16 for 74 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

After a stagnant start, Arizona had its best performance of the day with a touchdown and took the lead over Los Angeles.

It was a 10-play, 79-yard drive in which Kyler Murray missed a play due to injury and Arizona recovered a fumble. On the final play, Murray found Greg Dortch just inside the goal line for a five-yard touchdown pass.

The drive was largely carried by James Connor, who accounted for 43 yards.

The first points of the evening brought a piece of history for the Chargers.

Kicker Cameron Dicker had no trouble hitting a 59-yard field goal to give Los Angeles a 3-0 lead. The field goal also represented the longest field goal in franchise history, first made by Michael Badgley in 2018.

Thanks to two Arizona punts and two Chargers fumbles, the scoreboard didn’t move in the first quarter.

Los Angeles’ offense looked much crisper early on. Justin Herbert was 6-for-6 with 101 passing yards, but a fumble into the end zone ended the scoring opportunity on the first offensive drive. The Chargers have the ball near midfield to open the second quarter.

Los Angeles had a hard time keeping the ball and it only cost them a touchdown.

Justin Herbert fired a deep ball to a wide-open Jalen Reagor just a few feet from the goal line. But as he made his way to the end zone, the ball was beaten by Arizona star Thomas V and bounced out of bounds just over the goal line, resulting in a touchback and the Cardinals’ possession.

That’s already two mistakes this day for Los Angeles.

The Chargers had the ball, and then they didn’t.

On the first drive of the game, defensive tackle Teair Tart hit Kyler Murray and appeared to give his team the ball. A few moments later, however, Cardinals running back James Connor knocked the ball out of Tart’s hands and it rolled across the field. It was eventually recovered by Michael Wilson to give Arizona the ball back. It means a first down for the Cardinals – but 31 yards behind where the wild play began.
