Early voting in Bexar County is off to a busy start

If day one is any indication, early voting in Bexar County could set a new record for the November general election.

As of 1 p.m. Monday, 20,911 voters have cast early votes, surpassing the half-day record, when 14,851 residents cast early votes in 2018, Bexar County elections director Jacque Callanen said at a news conference.

Early voting runs Monday through November 1st.

Callanen urged early voters to be patient because “parking is an issue at one of the locations” and to have their voter ID with them.

She suggests voters visit the Bexar County Elections Department website, download their customized sample ballot, pre-mark it and take it to the voting booth to ensure a seamless voting experience.

Callanen said voters can save some time by finding out which polling places are the least busy. The election department website will post the number of voters who attended polling stations after each day of early voting.

“We encourage voters to check it out, and they may be able to drive a few minutes further to get to a site that isn’t (highly trafficked),” she said.

Callanen also asks voters to be respectful at polling stations, especially to seniors waiting in line.

“If you see anyone having difficulty standing or walking, please move them to the front of the line,” she said.

Callanen also said the last day to apply for an absentee ballot is Friday. The elections office received 12,230 of the 45,000 ballots the office mailed.
