St. Louis Cardinals fans watching Game 6 of this year’s National League Championship Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets were unpleasantly reminded of what their beloved team lost.

Former Cardinals homegrown Tommy Edman was a force to be reckoned with after he went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run and four RBIs and ultimately earned NLCS MVP honors with the Dodgers.

For Dodgers fans, Sunday night’s win will be a fond memory, but for St. Louis it was another reminder of how poor the leadership of John Mozeliak, the Cardinals’ president of baseball operations, has been since he took over last year 2017 goes.

Edman is batting .341 with four extra-base hits, including a home run, 12 RBIs and an .810 OPS in 11 games for Los Angeles this postseason.

It’s hard to fathom how Edman, a 29-year-old utility man with a full year left on his contract, was traded for an aging rental and a veteran pitcher with just one solid season under his belt.

Pham is no longer with the Cardinals and Fedde’s performance deteriorated after he was traded to St. Louis at this summer’s trade deadline. Additionally, Mozeliak traded Edman for former Chicago White Sox players to bolster the roster in hopes of returning to the playoffs – but that didn’t happen.

Cardinals fans continue to watch other teams have success with former St. Louis players as the 11-time World Series champions struggle to even get into the playoffs – the 2022 NL Wild Card Series was the last appearance of the Franchise.

This offseason, Cardinals fans will see former first-round pick Luke Weaver dominate the Yankees’ closer, while Jack Flaherty and 2014 No. 34 overall pick Edman lead the Dodgers to their first World Series title want to lead the entire season since 1988 – – Technically, the 2020 COVID-19 season was the last time they won it all.

In 2023, Cardinals fans witnessed former homegrown slugger Adolis García deliver one of the most dominant hitting performances in modern postseason history, earning American League Championship MVP honors with the Rangers.

It’s tiring and frustrating for Cardinals fans to watch their beloved franchise make the same mistakes over and over again. Fortunately, the reign of former Boston Red Sox Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom is upon us, and Mozeliak’s short-sighted decisions will no longer threaten St. Louis’ future.
