Is Election Day 2024 a federal holiday? Everything you need to know

Weeks before Election Day on November 5th, early voting began in Texas on Monday and will continue until November 1st. Forty-seven states and the District of Columbia offer early voting to all voters, but according to the Justice Department, Election Day takes place on the Tuesday after the first Monday. The states that offer early voting and absentee voting to all voters are Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, DC, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming. States that offer early voting for all but require a valid reason for absentee voting include Connecticut, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and West Virginia.

Election Day is not a federal holiday, but is observed as a holiday in some states. State offices in Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Virginia and West Virginia will close on November 5th.
24 states and the District of Columbia offer paid time off to vote.
Some states such as Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts and Wisconsin offer time off to vote, but without pay.

Voters without ID
Voters without ID can bring their birth certificates to prove their identity, a valid voter registration certificate, a government check or bank statement, etc.
