House Speaker Mike Johnson speaks during a press conference on September 10 in Washington, DC

House Speaker Mike Johnson vowed Saturday to pursue an “aggressive” agenda if he retains the gavel and expressed optimism that Republicans are poised to win the White House and both chambers of Congress.

Johnson, who is on a cross-country tour, said he will visit 65 cities in 24 states this month, including blue states and swing districts.

Johnson acknowledged it would be a “close election” but said he did not believe the polls would “fully capture what we are experiencing and seeing” and predicted a “demographic shift” in the electorate.

He announced a “very aggressive agenda for the first 100 days” if Trump is elected, adding: “Senate Republicans will work hand in hand with House Republicans.”

Johnson and several members of the House GOP conference were in Michigan on Saturday to campaign for House candidates Tom Barrett and Paul Junge, who Republicans view as top contenders to fill vacated seats by Democratic incumbents.

Johnson also told voters in Michigan that he had asked his staff to leave “gifts” for Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, who is scheduled to land today at the same airport where the speaker held his event.

The items demonstrated Walz’s penchant for misrepresentation, including a “knucklehead” pillow, a water gun (“which he can actually load”), Senator JD Vance’s memoirs, a calendar, a map (so he could “see the southern border can find). ) and a US flag (to remind him which country he is in).
