US presidential election updates: Trump goes to McDonald’s as Harris delivers 60th birthday sermon | US elections 2024

The former president took a moment to brag about his time in office and offered sarcastic congratulations Kamala Harris on her 60th birthday. “Maybe I’ll get her some fries,” Trump said.

The visit was intended to be a swipe at the opponent Harriswho worked at the fast food chain while studying. Trump has frequently questioned this experience without providing any evidence to support it.

Harris celebrated her birthday at two churches in Georgia, continuing her “Souls to the Ballot” campaign to reach black voters through religious communities.

The Democratically vice presidential candidate, Tim Waltzvisited churches in Michigan and Minnesota while Donald Trump and his supporters Elon Musk held separate town halls in Pennsylvania. Kamala Harris election news

  • Kamala Harris celebrated her 60th birthday by visiting two parish churches in Georgia. The first congregation sang “Happy Birthday” as Harris took the stage Stevie Wonder Harris joined and sang Bob Marley’s Redemption Song on the second visit.

  • Harris talked about how Religious experiences in their youth in Oakland, California, influenced her politics by reaching out to the congregation at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta. Echoing the parable of the Good Samaritan in the Gospel of Luke, the vice president advocated for policies that embrace compassion. “What kind of country do we want to live in – a country of chaos, fear and hate or a country of freedom, compassion and justice? … When we encounter our brothers and sisters in need, let us, like the Good Samaritan, see a neighbor in the face of a stranger.”

  • Walz, who attended a church service in Saginaw, Michigan, criticized Trump for selling out Brand Bibles. “We understand in our faith that the Bible is to be read, followed and internalized. It’s not supposed to be branded and sold for $59,” Walz said, telling the crowd he was “pretty uncomfortable with that idea.”

  • Harris has no plans to campaign with Joe Biden before the election. The decision was a mutual, anonymous Harris campaign and White House officials told NBC News. Instead, the president will help Harris by leveraging his longstanding political connections. “The most important role he can play is to do his job as president,” a White House official said.

  • Harris sat down with Rev. Al Sharpton for a one-on-one interview in Atlanta on MSNBC’s PoliticsNation, where she discussed recent polls indicating a decline in her support among black men. “This narrative about what kind of support we get from black men is just not reality,” she said. “I have to win the vote of everyone, regardless of their race or gender.”

News about the Donald Trump election

  • Trump escalated his dangerous rhetoric by calling Democrats “enemies from within.” during an interview with Howard Kurtz on Fox News, airing Sunday. The former president said that “radical left-wing lunatics… the enemy within… should be very easy to handle, if necessary, by the National Guard or, if really necessary, by the military,” before calling out Representatives Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff expressly denounced. Similar statements by Trump in recent weeks sparked concern and stoked fears of an authoritarian crackdown if he were to become president again.

  • Trump reiterated his statement that the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol was a “day of love.” during the same interview with Fox News. Asked if he was comfortable calling Jan. 6 “the day of love,” Trump responded, “You came here to protest a rigged election…You have the right to protest in this country. He had previously said, “There’s something beautiful and loving in that,” echoing comments he made at a recent town hall in Miami.

  • Trump held one City Hall in Lancaster, Pennsylvaniahis second rally in the battleground state this weekend. Former ESPN anchor Sage Steele moderated while Trump answered questions from the audience. Elsewhere in the election campaign

  • Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and owner of X, held a town hall in Pittsburgh in support of Trump. In a short speech, Musk repeated false and fear-mongering claims and told those in attendance that “the Constitution is literally under attack.” Musk also discussed his goal of speeding up government operations and his promised role as “secretary of cost reduction” in a second Trump administration. “I’d like to say it’s a hard job, but that’s not the case,” he said.

  • Musk also wrote his second check for $1 million to a signer of his petition encouraging Republicans in key states to register to vote. The tech mogul, whose fortune is estimated at $247 billion, pledged Saturday to donate $1 million every day to someone who signs a petition supporting the First and Second Amendments.
