Rookie Brock Bowers’ consistent performance wasn’t enough to get the Raiders over the hump in Los Angeles

The Las Vegas Raiders’ history over the last three games will show that the same two issues continue to plague the team.

“I have to take care of the ball,” head coach Antonio Pierce said after the 20-15 loss to the Rams. “Three interceptions and a sack fumble. Football is the most important thing. You have to take care of it, you have to be smarter with the ball. At the end you try to make a shot. That’s what you get.” The others have to take better care of the ball.

“Penalties, these pre-snap penalties — those are unacceptable,” Pierce added. “Of course that starts with us concentrating on the players and also the coaches. The same applies here: just keep thinking about it. Overall we’re doing pretty well and we scored another one this week.”

The Raiders gave themselves a chance to win the game by allowing the Rams’ offense just 259 yards and holding Los Angeles to a 20 percent conversation rating on third downs.

Kicker Daniel Carlson knocked down all five of his field goal attempts, while the Rams tallied a missed PAT and field goal attempt.

Ultimately, the Raiders beat themselves at SoFi Stadium, committing 10 penalties for 80 yards and losing three turnovers. All four of the team’s turnovers came from quarterback Gardner Minshew II, who entered the game in the first quarter after Aidan O’Connell injured his right thumb.

“It’s unacceptable to have that many turnovers,” Minshew said. “I have to be smarter with the ball. Having a game where we lose about five points and have four turnovers is crucial and not fair to the rest of the team. I’m going to go back, look at it.” I’m not going to sulk, I’m not going to pout, but whatever we have to do to fix this, I’m going to do it.
