Rob Gronkowski reveals why Patrick Mahomes could be better than Tom Brady

It’s no surprise that Rob Gronkowski believes his old pal Tom Brady is the greatest quarterback and football player of all time after the two spent over a decade together in the NFL.

Gronkowski never played in the NFL on a team that did not have Brady at quarterback and won four Super Bowls with the Patriots and Buccaneers before both retired from the squad.

The legendary tight end revealed one aspect where he believes Mahomes could be better than Brady.

“That’s what ultimately makes Patrick Mahomes possibly, possibly even better than the GOAT (Tom Brady) … is that he can extend plays to a whole different level,” Gronkowski said on the “Dudes on Dudes” podcast with his former Teammate Julian Edelman.

“But he’ll never be better than Tom.” Even if he is. I’ll never say that because I love Tom.’

“But the way he can extend plays is what makes the Kansas City Chiefs so good.” He’s about to be sacked and he just rolls out, spins off a defender and then throws it to Travis Kelce or Tyreek Hill to when he had him, or a nameless seventh-rounder like you, Julian.”

“Again, making that seventh-grader famous like Tom did you. That’s why these quarterbacks are great, because they make us famous too.”

Edelman was drafted in the middle of the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft, 23 picks ahead of Gronkowski’s older brother Dan, who was the second-to-last selection in the draft.

Brady won seven Super Bowls in his career, while Mahomes won three Lombardi Trophies eight years into his NFL career.

After winning the Super Bowl three times in his first four years in the NFL, Brady won the No. 4 championship in just his 14th season in the league.

It’s hard to imagine a world in which Mahomes doesn’t win another championship until 2030 by that measure.

With much of Mahomes’ career yet to end, the comparisons to Brady will likely never end.
