How Miami Dolphins’ Tyler Huntley is holding things back before Tua returns

MIAMI GARDENS – It was a very productive farewell week for Miami Dolphins quarterback Tyler Huntley.

Huntley moved to a new residence.

“It was good to be in my own apartment and not in a hotel, living out of a suitcase,” Huntley said Wednesday.

Huntley threw himself into Miami’s schedule without the pressure of a Sunday game.

And when the weekend came, he asked Jaylen Waddle and Jonnu Smith if they would like to get together to run some routes.

They said yes.

“Replaying plays gives us a better chance to get more comfortable,” Huntley said.

Smith said he would be happy to oblige. Ultimately, he had decided to stay in South Florida and not jet off to Europe or the Caribbean.

“Everyone vacations in Miami,” Jonnu said Wednesday. “So where do I have to go?”

Smith said the practice representatives are valuable.

Miami Dolphins Schedule: The bye week helped Tyler Huntley

“Tighten it up,” Smith said. “We took advantage of it. We discussed concepts. We put ourselves in real game scenarios. We have described in great detail the work we have put in because that will lead to more production and more success.”

What did Smith see in the man nicknamed “Snoop” Huntley?

“A lot of growth,” he said. “A lot of knowledge gain.”

The Dolphins added Huntley a month ago.

He passed for 194 yards in a win over New England, leading the game-winning drive after passing for just 94 yards in the debut loss to Tennessee.

“It’s been going great and it’s only going to get better,” Huntley said. “The more reps you do, the better you do… Refine your footwork and all calls. I recite them to myself. Get a good grip.”

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel also feels more comfortable with a Huntley game plan now.

“Certain things that I can tell he’s confident in throwing or running or whatever, you go into it and you think, you know, you get a lot of clarity,” McDaniel said. “It’s a night and day difference for everyone involved because we work together day after day, week after week to improve results.”

Anthony Richardson vs. Tyler Huntley on the line

Sunday’s quarterback duel is expected to be between Huntley and former Florida Gators quarterback Anthony Richardson.

“Baller,” Huntley said of Richardson.

The Dolphins may have their work cut out for them against a Colts defense that can’t withstand the run.

But they’re also more confident that Huntley can make a positive difference, too.

Tua Tagovailoa’s return is getting closer and closer

If the Dolphins find a way to win on Sunday, they would be 3-3 with the possibility of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa returning next week against Arizona.

“Whatever it takes to win, we’ll do it,” Huntley said.
