During his opening monologue for SNL 50, the Beetlejuice The actor is forced to share the stage with Mikey Day and Andy Samberg, both of whom burst onto the stage in full Betelgeuse regalia: wild green hair, pinstripe suits, and hideous makeup to boot.

“When Halloween comes around, I’m going to see a lot of these little kids out there dressed just like Beetlejuice, which is adorable,” the Oscar nominee said while promoting the film Beetlejuice Follow-up posted on September 6th. “And I’ll also see a lot of grown men dressed like Beetlejuice, usually men in their forties, which is less adorable.”

His joke triggered the appearance of Day, who immediately began howling and adopting the demon’s characteristic hoarse voice. When he asked Keaton to “do the voice” and say his catchphrase, “It’s showtime,” Keaton demurred.

“To be honest, I don’t even remember how I said it,” the host said.

At this point Samberg showed up. When Keaton asked what he was doing there: How about his regular gig as Second Gentleman of the USA Doug Emhoff? – he quipped in his best Beetlejuice impression: “Yeah, the writers couldn’t jam it this week, so here we find ourselves.”

To complete the chaotic scene on stage in Studio 8H, the camera panned to Sarah Sherman in the audience, dressed in a black and white striped outfit. Just as Keaton had reached his Beetlejuice-mania limit, the star said, “Oh no, that’s just how I dress,” before mimicking him too, just in case.

When Keaton noted that it seemed like everyone was quoting the 1988 original and wondering if the actors had seen the sequel, everyone responded “not yet” and “it’s on the list.”

But the veteran actor didn’t let it get him down, eventually gave in and opened the evening’s show with the voice of Beetlejuice.
